Apple HomeView Arrives at $299: A Smart Home Hub Built Around Siri AI
CNBC notes that this is John Ternus’s first launch outside iPhones since he took over from Tim Cook at the start of September. Our report on the Apple CEO change covers that background.
What Apple HomeView Is
HomeView pairs a 7-inch Liquid Retina display with a domed speaker base. A stainless steel hinge lets you tilt the screen. The body is aluminum, and the tabletop model comes in silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray.
A separate wall-mounted model comes in space gray and silver. It uses the same display and attaches with one of three mounts from Schneider Home.
The screen adjusts to your distance. It shows simple information from across the room and more detail as you step closer. Brightness runs from 500 nits down to 0.3 nits, which Apple says suits a nightstand. HomeView also recognizes up to six people by face and gives each one a personal Home Screen.
For sound, Apple built two full-range drivers into the display, plus a down-firing woofer and two passive radiators in the base. It supports multiroom audio with other HomeView, HomePod, HomePod mini and AirPlay speakers.
Siri AI Is the Main Selling Point
HomeView runs Siri AI, which Apple calls an entirely new version of Siri. Paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, it can draw on personal context such as your Calendar and Messages. Without one, Apple says you still get broad world knowledge and natural conversation.
Apple’s own footnotes add two caveats. Siri AI is in beta in HomeView software version 27.2, and setup requires a compatible iPhone or iPad.
On privacy, Apple says Siri requests can use on-device processing or Private Cloud Compute. It also says camera and microphone data is handled in separate protected runtimes called Secure Exclaves on the A18 chip.
Smart Home Control and What Costs Extra
The Home Camera face can livestream up to nine video feeds at once. HomeView works with Matter and Works with Apple Home accessories. It also listens for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and alerts your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.
Some features cost extra. Intelligent recognition of people, pets, packages and vehicles needs a supported iCloud+ subscription. The wall-mounted model needs a mount, which starts at $59.95 for the USB-C option and $79.95 for the AC wired option. A PoE version arrives in early 2027 at $129.95.
Apple also announced Apple Home Collection, a new lineup of cameras, thermostats and a lock made with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. It starts arriving in December, with select accessories in early 2027.
Where You Can Buy It
Apple says customers in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK and the US can pre-order now. Singapore pre-orders open on October 15, and South Africa orders go through Apple Authorized Resellers. All of these markets get it on November 13.
HomeView is not sold in the European Union, because Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS there. Nigeria is not on Apple’s list of launch countries. If you plan to import one, check warranty and Siri AI language support first.
Other Apple Home Launches
MacRumors lists the HomePod mini 2 as launching on October 30, and a new Apple TV 4K with an A19 chip on November 13. MacRumors also reports that Apple says HomePod mini 2 will not support Siri AI right away.
Our Take
This section is our own view, not part of the reporting.
HomeView is a first-generation product in a new category, so waiting for hands-on reviews is sensible. It works best if you already own Apple devices, and some of its best features depend on a subscription or a newer iPhone. At $299 it is priced like a premium smart display, not an impulse buy.
