NELFUND Digitizes Student Loan Application Process

The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) announced that its Student Loan Application System (SLAS) is now fully digitized. This upgrade simplifies the loan application process for both students and institutions, making it faster and more efficient.

According to Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, the Director of Corporate Communications, accredited institutions must now access Student Loan Application System (SLAS) to verify and upload student data. These steps are crucial to ensuring timely loan approvals and disbursements.

Institutions that have not yet registered are encouraged to send an access request to registration@nelf.gov.ng immediately. By gaining access, they can view real-time dashboards, track student loan applications, and verify submitted data. This new process eliminates delays and creates a seamless experience for all involved.

NELFUND emphasized the importance of immediate action by institutions. Without their verification and data uploads, students’ loan approvals cannot proceed. The organization urged schools to act promptly in the best interest of their students.

This digitization effort is part of President Bola Tinubu’s broader reforms in education. Shortly after assuming office, President Tinubu signed the Access to Higher Education Act. This law established the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, providing financial support to low-income students in tertiary institutions.

The new system highlights the government’s commitment to expanding access to higher education. It also ensures that students from underprivileged backgrounds can achieve their academic goals without financial barriers.
